Ullr Fest
This week is the annual Breckenridge tradition of Ullr Fest. Ullr is the Norse snow god and the hope is that celebrating Ullr will bring good snowfall. Basically it is an excuse to drink, party and have fun. It has been happening since 1963.
On Wednesday night, the Ullympics were held downtown. The Ullympics consisted of a number of events testing athleticism and skill such as the frying pan toss and the four person snowshoe. I got down there and all of the teams and spectators were standing around drinking beer. I thought, When in Rome, do as the Romans do, so I walked over to the liquor store and bought a 32 of High Life. That was a bad idea. After about a half an hour of drinking cold beer outside with the temperature in the single digits, I was freezing. I was being chilled from the outside and from within. I had to walk back to my condo and put on a few more layers. The events were pretty lame, but it was kind of fun watching.
The real big event for Ullr Fest was the Ullr Parade held Thursday night. This is parade that goes down main street in the middle of the town. There are a bunch of crazy floats, people in costumes, streakers and other entertaining stuff. It looked like the entire town attended which was pretty cool. I will let the pictures do the talking.

Powder Day
A good amount of snow fell overnight. Probably about 6in down at my condo in the last 24 hours. I grabbed my powder skis in the morning and headed for Peak 10. The double blacks off the South side of Peak 10 were awesome. They have some really steep terrain and good tree skiing over there. I spent the entire day skiing those runs over and over. It was not very crowded and the snow stayed good the entire time. I am now beginning to see the difference between California and Colorado powder. The snow here is so dry and light, that skiing in it is much easier and more fun. Even with 6 in of new snow the skiing was a blast.

Heavy Snow
This afternoon, for the first time since I've been here, it snowed really hard. The rate of snowfall was similar to what is normal in big storms in California. The bad part was that it only lasted about a hour and a half. I think it dumped 3-4in over that time period. It was good snow to ski in, I just wished that it snowed hard all day. It is snowing again right now, hopefully there will be more accumulation overnight. My powder skis are getting excited.
This ad was posted in the Summit Daily (The local Breckenridge newspaper) today. I think they are just trying to rub it in that they have a lot of snow.

San Diego Not So Super Chargers
Too bad the Chargers lost. I was hoping that they would do well in the Playoffs. They choked pretty hard, although the Jets choked to allow the Chargers to choke. Two of the other teams I was rooting for this weekend lost as well (Seahawks and Broncos). Pretty amazing that I was rooting for two of the Raiders' division rivals. The worst part is that there are only 7 football games left this year. I'm not really sure who I will root for next week.
